Simple, Natural Skincare: Amethyst Gua Sha, Tallow, and Lunar Reset

I recently learned about the practice of placing crystals under the moonlight to cleanse and reset them — a method sometimes called lunar charging or moon cleansing. It’s a practice rooted in both traditional mineral care and modern holistic wellness, and it centers around one simple truth: minerals — like us — can hold onto energy.
Amethyst, in particular, is known for its ability to amplify, store, and soothe energy. It’s a variety of quartz with a calming, grounding presence — often associated with rest, nervous system regulation, and emotional balance. When used regularly in something like a Gua Sha routine, that tool interacts with our skin, our lymphatic system, and our energy. And like any tool that’s constantly being used to support us, it makes sense to reset it intentionally.
So a few nights ago, I placed my amethyst Gua Sha outside, under the moonlight, with the quiet intention of clearing out what it had been helping me release. And since then, it’s become part of a nighttime ritual that’s supporting both my skin and my nervous system in ways I didn’t expect.
Let’s Talk My Amethyst Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a practice that originated in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Traditionally used across the body to relieve pain and move stagnant energy, it’s now widely practiced in facial care to stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness, increase circulation, and ease muscular tension — all with gentle, consistent strokes.
Why I Chose Amethyst for My Gua Sha Tool
There are plenty of facial Gua Sha tools out there — jade, stainless steel, even plastic (which I personally avoid). But amethyst has become my favorite for a few important reasons.
First, amethyst is piezoelectric. When pressure is applied to it — like when you’re using Gua Sha across your face — it creates a tiny electrical charge. This microcurrent is believed to stimulate skin cells, which can enhance glow, support circulation, and improve product absorption.
Amethyst is also:
Naturally cooling (great for reducing inflammation)
Non-porous (hygienic and easy to clean)
Known for its calming, balancing properties, which make it ideal for winding down and resetting
Which brings me back to why I now reset it under the moon.
Why I Place It Under the Moon

Moonlight carries subtle electromagnetic frequencies, including visible and infrared light. Amethyst responds to energy and temperature shifts, so giving it a night under the open sky helps reset it — not just physically, but energetically. It’s a way to neutralize what the tool may have picked up over time and bring it back to a more balanced state.
There’s also a long-standing belief in mineral care that crystals like amethyst can hold onto energetic residue, especially when used regularly in bodywork. Moonlight offers a gentle, natural way to clear that — no chemicals, no rituals, just nature doing what it does.
It’s simple. I set mine on the fence in my backyard and leave it overnight. Just amethyst, sky, and the intention to start fresh.
My Evening Ritual
I start with my Sweet Citrus Cleansing Oil — a gentle blend that melts off makeup and buildup without stripping my natural oils. It leaves my face clean, soft, and perfectly balanced.
Next, I apply Ember Tallow Whip — rich, creamy, and perfect for Gua Sha. The organic tallow, frankincense, vetiver, bergamot and vanilla give my skin everything it needs to feel calm, nourished, and restored.
Then I use my amethyst Gua Sha to ease tension, reduce puffiness, and support circulation — slow, simple, and effective.
Final Thoughts
Not everything in a skincare routine needs to be high-tech or high-effort. Sometimes the simplest choices — like washing your face with oil, rubbing beef fat on your skin, massaging your face with a stone, and letting that stone sit out under the moon for a night — are the ones that leave the biggest impact.
These practices aren’t new. They’re old. They’re ancestral. And they’re exactly the kind of grounded, time-tested care that mainstream beauty has tried to replace with chemicals and quick fixes. Because sometimes it’s not about finding something new — it’s about choosing what’s never stopped working.
Love,
Lia
